London Modern Quilt Guild - a lovely way to spend a Sunday!

So yesterday, after a couple of months of annoying trains and engineering works typically on a Sunday, I managed to get into London and spend a lovely afternoon with my quilty friends at the London Modern Quilt Guild meeting. It was so nice to catch up with everyone and meet new visitors, and yes they travel far - a lady all the way from Australia!!
I always feel so inspired and ready to rush home and sew after the meetings and remembered to take some photos too! If you want to find out more about the guild check here!

Here are some of the highlights!

My number block for one of our charity quilts - number 5 although looks more like an S!

Gorgeous quilt design by Carina inspired by a piece of fabric!

Sharing quilts received as part of swaps - this was a mini, it is amazing!

A gorgeous quilt by Dorothy for Siblings Together

The merry crew!

Gorgeous mix of solids and liberty print hexies by Michaela

Gorgeous fabric storage made by Amanda with our member Colette's fabric!
and yes we do meet in a pub!! It's very lovely!

Just call me the bag lady!

Its no secret I love to make bags and zippy pouches and have quite an extensive collection growing!
A girl can never have too many right!?

One of my go to patterns I discovered several years ago is the (No Guts) Boxie Pouch from So Chick via Craftsy. I just love this pattern and once you've made one you'll be addicted, I promise!

So one of my May makes and I think my favourite is my latest boxie pouch. I used a slightly heavier wadding to give it a really nice structure so it doesn't fold in on its self which wasn't too much of a pain to sew through on my little Bernina.

This is the scariest stage!!

This is a great quick make and I would love to see what other fab bags and zippy pouches you have made or suggestions of new patterns I should try, so leave a comment below :)

Need a quick make?

I don't know about you but sometimes when I haven't sewn for a while I need a quick make. Something not too daunting or mind boggling, which can easily be made in a short amount of time!
I needed this last week and after a burst of inspiration from Pinterest and a quick search I found a great tutorial for a small tissue cover from A Spoonful of Sugar. It's a great tutorial with quick results and a cute finish at the end. I prefer this style of tissue cover with the slightly overlapped cover rather than the centre opening to prevent the tissues from popping out!! I also used this as an excuse to use my Flatter by Soak spray just because I love the smell of the fig spray!
So if you want a quick and cute make I totally recommend this, makes those plastic packs of tissues look so much better!

Break time over!

Hello there!!
It's been a while - I needed a break from blogging, no real reason and now I feel ready to jump back on board!
Starting off with a new blog header :)
I'm no tech guru but thanks to pic monkey and a bit of playing around I'm happy with what I've come up with.
Since the start of the year I haven't really done much sewing but have been trying to keep up with bee blocks so because I hate to post without photos here they are:

Now I've uploaded all the blocks I've done quite a bit of sewing!!

Looking back to look forward!

Happy New Year!
It's been such a long time since I visited my own blog I need to remind myself how this all works! Hopefully it will all come back to me!
Various reasons why I have been MIA since last August - health problems, a lack of creative mojo, broken computer and not getting my work/life balance in any kind of balance - all things which I hope to put right this year. Lots happened last year I never got around to sharing - attending the Fat Quarterly retreat, being part of the London Modern Quilt Guild exhibition at the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, being part of two fantastic Bee's, another amazing round of the Sew, Sew Modern swap, completing my first quilt plus lots of other little visits and exhibitions along the way!

So in order for me to move forward and help my regain my creative mojo I finally downloaded some photos off my camera, yes camera!! I had forgotten I had a load of photos on there as these days I tend to rely solely on my iPhone!
Having done this and thinking last year was probably my least creative for ages, I was pleasantly surprised with what I had produced and most of them forgotten as they were hidden away on my camera!!
So here we go, a mixture of makes, swaps and bee blocks!!

Hopefully there are still some of you out there reading this little old blog and I will get back into sometime kind of routine as I have missed you all!!
